Description:
The Instrument Operator is responsible for assisting with preparing job sites for survey under the direct supervision of the Field Crew Chief as well as the Field Crew Manager.

MAINTAINING EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE & SUPPLIES:
Check, clean and adjust instruments as needed
Sharpen cutting tools
Check the general operative condition of assigned work vehicle (gas, oil, tire pressure)
Secure vehicle equipment at the end of each work day
Maintain inventory by identifying and communicating needed supplies required for all work assignments
FIELD ASSIGNMENT ASSISTANCE:
Transport and setup the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for survey
Clear underbrush, set stakes and/or pins into ground as directed
Take measurements and readings and assist the Field Crew Chief in accomplishing field assignments in an efficient manner
Become familiar with data collectors, descriptions, coding and techniques and company standardized information
Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:
Maintain equipment including but not limited to: electronic theodolite, GPS/GNSS surveying gear, field surveying supplies, car, tools, and other equipment as needed.
Travel from job to job working assisting Field Crew Chief to complete survey measurements and calculations
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to make mathematical calculations such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of mathematics and drafting
Minimum knowledge of land surveying practices and techniques
Working knowledge of modern survey devices and modern survey methods
Competence with optical and digital instruments as well as handheld controllers and Data Collectors
Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer or other appropriate tools
Coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff
A PLUS: the ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid license and clean driving history if necessary
